Golders Green has a new cool place to be seen. Club 113 opened just a few weeks ago but it is building itself a great reputation, thanks to its friendly service, good music and delicious menu.
Modern and stylish, Club 113 is the perfect place to spend a whole evening, with great value Indian food and regular live music in the spacious bar and restaurant.
Every Friday is jazz night, while other fixtures include Indian music on Thursdays and Sundays, and R 'n' B on Saturdays. On the night I visited, an excellent band were entertaining the customers with a combination of old jazz standards and blues numbers.
Raz, Club 113's energetic manager, has previously run bars in the City, but there is none of the City's pretentiousness here, despite the high standards he demands. Raz says that he likes to treat customers as friends. This was certainly true while I was there, with all of the staff chatting happily with customers throughout the evening.
The menu is best described as classic Indian, with dishes such as chicken tikka masala, korma and jalfrezi, so curry fans won't be disappointed. Large portions and great quality ingredients make it remarkably good value for money.
After snacking on some light and crispy poppadoms, my starter arrived. I delved into some sweet, sticky chilli wings a new addition to the menu, and, in my opinion, something that deserves to become a best-seller. I also tried some crispy deep-fried jalapenos filled with sour cream, and some spicy mogo masala pieces of cassava cooked in a fiery spiced sauce.
My main course was a delicious karahi chicken, with a fragrant mix of coriander and chilli, which was served in a cast-iron pot and coupled with a fresh cucumber salad, fluffy pilau rice and light, buttery naan bread.
For those who can manage it, there is a range of delicious Indian deserts, such as kulfi, and a type of milkshake made with rose syrup and ice cream called falooda.
If you are looking for somewhere to relax and unwind for an evening, Club 113 really is the perfect choice. Whether you are having a romantic evening or a night out with friends, you will be able to enjoy a drink, a great meal and maybe even a bit of a boogie to the live music, all in stylish and relaxing surroundings.
