Welcome to the weekly EBOG FC review.
The 1sts are beginning to look forward to the harder games because it seems to bring the best out of them. On Saturday they faced 3rd placed Norsemen who they now overtake. Yet another 2 for Sam Berry who also set up the third. Watch out next week though when they meet apparently easier opposition but cannot afford to relax.
The 2nds ran into a side who were 10pts clear at the top yet they felt they very unlucky to be down in the first half when three speculative shot went in from long range. They conceded 3 more when they were chasing the game in the second half. With 15 goals against in the last 3 games they are in something of a nosedive and need a hefty yank on the joystick to stay in this Division.
No such troubles for the 3's who were playing a side only one place below them but who had played 4 more games. They were swept aside with the in-form Ed Dixon adding a hattrick to the brace last week.
The 4ths faced Norsemen 5ths and it’s a sign of the times that they, in second place, are a far better side than their own 4ths who we narrowly beat last week. Predictably they were too good for us although not by much.
The 5ths were up against Broomfield 4ths who of course were miles behind their 5ths in the same division. Yet the 5ths who beat the highly placed 5ths 5-0 last October, couldn’t cope with the 2nd bottom side this week.
The 6ths had to get winning and there was no better opportunity than against the bottom side. They may feel grateful for the point but Scott Bell, who has been scoring lately, put the ball over the bar from 3 yards to miss the winner. They have a team who can definitely do enough to stay in this division.
The 7ths hadn’t played much football in the last 2 months and had to raise their game against Southgate 6ths who were top and, of course, were above their 5ths who were taking on the 8ths. In truth both sides had a bit too much for us.
The 8ths managed to lose 4 players in a car in the short journey to Palmers Green. Hard to do in this age of mobiles and Sat Navs. Fortunately they just turned up in time.
