A violent knife attacker whose victim lost eight pints of blood and a kidney after an horrific attack in Grahame Park has been jailed for 12 years.

Anthony James Samuels, 33, of no fixed abode, stabbed a 38-year-old man in the back after an argument flared in Acklington Drive at about 11.30pm on November 11 last year.

Samuels's victim, who does not want to be named, lost eight litres of blood and a kidney and also suffered damage to his liver. He was in intensive care for a week but survived and was then able to identify his assailant by name.

Samuels was arrested in Grahame Park, where he was then living, on November 26 and admitted assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Last Friday, he was given a 12-year jail sentence by Judge Dawn Freedman at Harrow Crown Court.

Detective Constable Mick Reavey, of Barnet police, said: "This assault was extremely serious. The victim and other witnesses were at first reluctant to co-operate with police as they were frightened of reprisals by Samuels, but we have managed to win their trust and a very dangerous man has been give a lengthy sentence as a result."
