After a week of intermittent rain there were a handful of games cancelled on Saturday but not at EBOG where the Alan Drive pitches looked immaculate and supported a total of 6 games over the weekend.

A day off for the 1sts on Saturday and they celebrated by consuming an enormous amount of dubious cocktails throughout the day.

The 2nds had the spotlight on the bottom pitch but failed to overcome an efficient Winchmore side. They fought their way back to 2-3 but conceded a penalty at a crucial time.

The 3rds moved up to 4th place with an emphatic win but two sides are getting away at the top. Winchmore Hill are unbeaten and Nottsborough are 100%.

The 4ths were 2-0 up after 20 minutes when a studs up tackle left Ben Parsonage with a nasty gash leading to a hospital visit and probable stitches. The wound was only this bad because of ‘blades’ studs. Should these be banned!? The reorganisation resulting from Ben’s departure didn’t work too well because they then conceded 7 goals.

The 5ths had the long trip to Woking although it is not too bad with the M25 available. Ben Allen is making steady progress up the goalscorers’ table.

The 6ths lifted themselves off the bottom of the table with a good win against highly placed Winchmore. No more than their recent form has deserved. Graham Langton scored the goal of the match if not the season when he lashed the ball home after beating several defenders.

The 7ths just don’t seem to be getting what they deserve at the moment. They were all over Winchmore Hill this week but couldn’t convert their superiority into goals. They remain behind the 8th s who have 3 games in hand! Many thanks to Phil Rudling for sacrificing his afternoon’s football to stand in as emergency Ref. Bryan Weightman was meant to be Reffing but he was travelling up the M1 in an E-type Jag with the top down (like in the Ads), when it burst into flames (unlike in the Ads!). He returned to Barnet in a Rescue truck!

The 8ths had a frustrating trip to BB Eagles. They got stuck in the Rugby international traffic on the North Circular Rd and, when they finally arrived, despite having a strong looking side, could make no impression against a team which is bottom of the South section of the SAL. Never mind, they can now concentrate on keeping above the 7s in the League!!

There was a very enjoyable first ever Super Vets game on Sunday against Stationers. It could signal the first of many more and a jug of IPA was ordered in the bar for the first time for at least 15 years!

Meanwhile on a neighbouring pitch, our new Under 16s youth side were fighting backing from 0-3 down to grab a point in an exciting match. Chris Cattlin, who was also in goal for the 7s on Saturday, played a significant role in winning the point.
