The 1st team hosted unbeaten Carshalton on the bottom pitch in difficult conditions.
EBOG failed to take advantage of the strong following wind in the first half. Long balls were never going to work but even shorter through balls were leaving the ever willing Rob Harris and Sam Berry chasing lost causes. Our best chances came from good work by Nick Page and Lee Barker down the left but our luck deserted us in front of goal. We always knew we’d be up against it in the second half but this was compounded when Carshalton got a good goal just before the interval.
EBOG fought hard against the wind and our luck returned when the keeper misjudged a soft shot. We held out to the last 5 when one of the few wind assisted through balls that found its target left a Carshalton forward with only the keeper to beat. A tremendous recovery tackle from Sean Carroll was tragically rewarded with a ricochet off our advancing keeper’s legs sending it bobbling into an empty net.
In many sides, heads would have dropped at this point, but the 1st team are fighters and a well worked Berry goal in the last minute was a just return for their efforts.
The 2nds had a rare visit to the Honorary Artillery Company in the AFA Cup who proved to have too much firepower. We were bombarded and were left shell-shocked, outgunned but never out-punned! Pity we didn’t have Bullet playing….
The 4ths looked comfortable in knocking out a side form the division above. They currently stand top of their division and look the form side at the moment.
The 5ths used 3 keepers at Norsemen. Firstly Dan Caskie injured a thumb and had to come out. Adam Weinrich took over but he had to later concede to an injured Ben Allen. In the circumstances it is understandable that they lost to Norsemen who go top.
The 6ths had a rare trip south of the Thames and lost a close game despite the first goal of the season for sharpshooter Alex North.
The 7ths conceded most of their goals in the last few minutes of the game which was close for much of the match. Phil Rudling had an action packed game. Despite picking up an injury he managed to score at both ends!
The 8ths were easily the match of Old Stationers and, despite a lot of possession, managed to get sliced open at the back too regularly. A promising debut for Chris Cattlin in goal who had little chance with the goals
