A PHOTOGRAPHER from Finchley swam, cycled and ran nearly 300 miles in two days to raise money for charity.

Matt Fisher, 30, took part in Double Iron UK, in Lichfield, last Saturday and Sunday to raise money for Everyman, a prostate and testicular cancer charity.

Mr Fisher, from Wentworth Avenue, got up at 3.15am on Saturday to prepare his bike for the event, in which he swam 4.8 miles, cycled 224 miles and ran 52 miles over 33 hours.

He napped for only ten minutes on park benches during the whole event and suffered 17 hours of non-stop rain during his epic cycle ride.

After crossing the finish line, at 2.30pm on Sunday, he had a cold shower, ordered an Indian takeaway, opened a beer and sat down to watch Top Gear - before promptly passing out.

"I only managed to do about four weeks of training for the event, so it was pretty tough," Mr Fisher said.

"The weather was pretty bad, and it rained and rained when I was cycling.

"I also didn't have any time to train for the swimming part, so I had to do the whole thing breaststroke, which meant I was second from last at the end of the first stage.

"But it was definitely worth it. Everyman is a great charity. You hear so much about breast cancer, but typical blokes are less aware of checking for lumps and having them examined."

Mr Fisher raised £600 from his endeavour, but hopes to more than quadruple that once he has finished collecting donations.
