A TEENAGER has turned his back on the job market to organise a charity festival in Potters Bar.

Amar Sejpal, 19, is single-handedly organising the Big Summer Event to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The youngster, who studies IT and journalism at Middlesex University, decided to put on the event because he wanted to "do something good".

He said: "I really support the charity because it does so much good for the children, and I thought it would be nice to do something worthwhile for others, rather than just spend my summer working.

"It's been challenging, but hopefully we'll have a good turn-out."

Mr Sejpal, from St Vincents Road, hopes to attract around 1,000 revellers to the festival, which will be held at 363 Elm Court, Mutton Lane, from 12pm to 5pm on August 31.

Visitors will be entertained by a funfair, food stalls, tarot reading, face painting, DJs, raffles and live music.

Michael Perham, the Potters Bar 17-year-old hoping to complete his bid to be the youngest sailor to circumnavigate the world in around three weeks, is also planning to attend.

Tickets are £2, or free for under-12s, and can be purchased on the door.
