RESIDENTS from Potters Bar can now read about council events and news on Twitter.

Listed as HertsmereBC, Hertsmere Borough Council is using the social networking site to update followers about what is going on around the borough.

Council leader Morris Bright said: "Twitter is just one of the new social networking sites we are using to get in touch with our residents.

“As a council we have to tap into new communications tools to engage with people to keep them up-to-date with council news.

"The challenge is keeping the Twitter updates brief. You can use no more than 150 characters, so we are using them as alerts, so that people can get a quick snapshot and know where to go for more information, such as our website."

To view Twitter and follow Hertsmere you need to have a personal account, which is free to sign up.
