A DANCE class for over-55s will launch tomorrow in a bid to promote fitness and well-being for the elderly.
The class will be held at the Eversfield Centre, in Mill Hill, and is part of Age Concern Barnet's Say Go project.
It will be run by professional dance tutor Sheila Dickie, who works with the Sadler's Well's Company Of Elders, an over 60s contemporary dance troupe that has featured on BBC1's Imagine.
Ms Dickie has previously worked with Age Concern Islington, helping to set up nine dance classes for older people. Mark Robinson, chief officer of Age Concern Barnet, said: “We are delighted to have Sheila involved in Say Go.
“This is a new, exciting opportunity for older people within the borough to join a dance class designed for them, taught by someone with a lifetime of experience in this field.”
The classes will help improve fitness, but the mature students will also be given the chance to showcase their new-found skills on stage.
Participants will be able to learn a variety of group dances, including chain dances, circle dances and traditional English and Scottish dances.
The free class, which is for people over the age of 55, will take place from 10.30am to 11.30am at the centre in Eversfield Gardens.
