A NEW waste and recycling plant will be built on the site of a former sewage works in Friern Barnet if given the go-ahead by Barnet Council.

The council is set to sell the freehold of the Pinkham Way site to the North London Waste Authority (NLWA), which will build the facility.

The site was last used as the Friern Barnet Sewage Works in the 1960s and has remained unused since then.

The council has been trying to offload the site for the last ten years but successive bids, including one from the DIY store chain B&Q, have fallen through.

The council's cabinet resources committee will consider the sale of the site to the NLWA on Thursday.
