A MAN was rescued by fire crews from a blaze in Barnet last night.

Firefighters used breathing equipment to reach the man and lead him to safety after the fire broke out at about 11.25pm in a ground floor maisonette.

The fire in Fordham Road caused only minor damage to the property and the man did not require treatment from paramedics.

Two fire engines and about ten firefighters from Southgate and Barnet fire stations attended the incident and had the flames under control just before midnight.

The London fire brigade said the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
