A SCHOOLGIRL from Finchley has bagged the top prize in a supermarket design challenge.

Ezoe Robinson, 15, from Moat Crescent, beat more than 70,000 students to make the final eight of a national competition to design an eco-friedndly shopping bag for Tesco.

The Copthall School pupil has now seen her artistic recycling message brought to life on a series of reusable bags launched last week in the Sentinel Square branch, in Hendon.

Ezoe, who one day hopes to be a designer, said she saw the competition advertised on social networking site Facebook, but admitted she did not think she would win after entering.

“I randomly applied for it at home and it is amazing to win,” said Ezoe. “I just put some paint on some paper, scanned it into the computer and changed it around a bit using a design programme.

“I thought it came out quite well, but I didn’t think I would win and actually get it printed on a bag.

“I am really proud and now it is real I can definitely see people using it. Lots of people have said they like it, so hopefully it will catch on and go into more shops.”

The Talent2Trade competition was part of Shine Week, held earlier this month to celebrate the talents of young people ranging from street dancing to bee keeping.

Organisers said Ezoe’s entry impressed judges because of its creativity and thought-provoking image.

One judge, designer Cath Kidston, said it was “wonderful” to be recognising the youngsters’ achievements.

She said: “It’s lovely to see creative talents blossoming in our young people.”
