A WHETSTONE man has been hit with an ASBO for making his neighbours' lives a misery by parking as many as 15 cars in their street at one time.
For three years Amir Kani, of Macaret Close, used the street and others round it as his own personal car yard, selling cars from them despite not holding a street trading licence.
Following a two day case at Central London County Court last month Mr Kani was given an ASBO banning him from parking more than one car in any road in Barnet.
He was also banned from trading cars from a house within the borough.
Breaching the ASBO is a criminal offence that could result in an fine, imprisonment for a maximum of five years, or both.
The small road only had enough spaces for 17 cars. Mr Kani's actions prevented neighbours from parking and blocked refuse lorries and emergency vehicles from getting in.
A petition signed by 25 residents asked Mr Kani to move the cars, but he refused and was repeatedly rude and abusive to his neighbours.
Mr Kani's cars were eventually seized by Barnet Council, which sought the ASBO to prevent him repeating his behaviour.
Delivering his judgement Robert Francis QC said: “I am satisfied that Mr Kani was capable of behaving in an unpleasant and offensive manner to residents on many occasions when challenged about his activities.
“There is a serious risk that he will revert to this anti-social behaviour unless restrained from doing so.”
