Residents are being invited to don their walking boots and join Barnet Council staff on a ramble along the Dollis Valley Green Walk tomorrow.

The seven mile trek has been organised to give people the opportunity to voice their opinions on how the £400,000 grant from the Mayor of London should be spent on the green spaces.

The money was awarded last month to fund improvements to the route, which stretches from Brent Park in Hendon to Brook Farm Open Space in Totteridge, after more than 4,000 votes of support from Londoners.

Councillor Andrew Harper, cabinet member for environment and transport, will be joined by members of the council's parks team for the walk, which is due to set off from Brent Park at about 9am.

The walk will head north into Windsor Open Space through Mill Hill Viaduct and onto Riverside Walk before finishing in Brook Farm Open Space at about 2pm.

A council spokesman said “As part of the bid for funding the council put forward a number of improvements but are now seeking to informally gauge the views of residents on how the money should be spent to better improve their open spaces along the walk.”

Improvements submitted as part of the funding bid included improving signposting and landscaping, the installation of new play facilities in the parks and the introduction of new wildlife habitats.

Mr Harper said: "It is important we ask residents and park users where they would like to see improvements made.

“I encourage residents who are able to attend the walk, to come down, put your ideas forward whilst enjoying some of the borough's best scenery."

Residents unable to attend the walk but would still like to put forward their ideas can do so by emailing dollisvalleygreenwalk@barnet.gov.uk.
