The 1sts had rematch of the abandoned game in January when the score was 3-2 to HSBC. All played and behaved impeccably in a close game that was decided by two deserved penalties when Berry and Nayee were brought down in goal scoring positions. The HSBC player was perhaps unlucky to be sent off on the second occasion as it was far from a professional foul but technically the correct decision. The officials were excellent throughout.
An important game for the 2nd XI who were playing the side immediately below them who had games in hand. A good win and Tom Nelson took the opportunity to pull level with Sam Berry in the goal scorers’ list. This now looks like a two horse race.
The 3rds were playing the 3rd placed side that had a good shout to be champions. However, dogged defence against a side who apparently had reached the AFA final won the day. The 3rds are shaping up to be the highest placed EBOG side.
The 4ths also had higher opposition. CEV 4s were in 4th place before the match and proved a bit too strong on the day.
Following the pattern of tough opposition, the 5ths could find no greater test than the team 3 points clear at the top. They capitulated in an extraordinary goal fest with maybe only EBOG’s defence wanting.
5th placed Norsemen were also favourites on paper against the 6th’s and so it proved in practice.
Finally, the 8th’s couldn’t have faced a more daunting task, playing the top of the table side who were averaging 5 goals a game and had last week thrashed our 7ths 9-0. For a long time they were in the game at 1-1 but the dam broke in the second half.
