Now that’s the start of the season we wanted! Played two, won two. Admittedly, it wasn’t the smoothest of performances. Marlow passed the ball around well, while never really threatening Yash too much between the posts (although he still pulled off a couple of outstanding saves, which is merely what we have come to expect). Particularly pleasing was how dangerous we were on the break. The two goals came from myself (reverse stick, no less!) and Robin. We could and should have had a couple more, but Graham was feeling particularly kind to the opposition in missing at least one sitter.
Other notable performances came from Mark ‘break ya legs’ Scut in defence and Keith ‘zimmerframe’ Cooper bossing the midfield. In the general backslapping of the post-match cuddles, we didn’t get around to awarding a man of the match, and we appear to have decided that dick of the day shall only be awarded when it is really deserved. (Pete almost grabbed dotd for a real hospital pass across his own area to a Marlow forward, who thankfully squandered the golden opportunity.) The difference to the situation last season is massive: we kept a clean sheet and we always look dangerous on the attack. At the moment, this looks as if it is going to be a good season.
