I started antenatal classes this week.
In six weeks (five now) I am going to learn how to be a good mother and how to bring my child into the world. In another ten hours of classes I am going to master labour, feeding, the first few days of motherhood, and what to watch out for pre and post delivery. In just 600 minutes I am going to make friends for myself and for my unborn child that we will have forever.
Admittedly it does seem like a mammoth task but I enjoyed lesson one and am ready for what lies ahead. Apparently one of the things we learn is what do to if the baby comes before you reach hospital, with the men given a crash course in baby delivery. My husband’s face was a picture when we were told this. I think he’ll do anything possible to ensure that little drama doesn’t unfold for us. Anyway, apparently the odds of that happening are slim. So they say.
It is really exciting to finally meet other expectant mums due at similar times to me and to share our experiences of exhuastion, exhaustion and exhaustion.
And while I guess starting the classes is slightly daunting in that it has highlighted how much I have to learn in a matter of weeks I am definitely up for the challenge. And getting very excited...
