This weekend myself and my husband decided it was time to seriously consider transforming the spare room into a nursery. So, after getting some dodgy measurements for the dimensions of the room (remember to be consistent with centimetres or inches and that opposite walls should really add up to the same length) we took ourselves to look at wardrobes; stage one of the makeover process.
We booked an appointment with a teenager who knew about as much about fitted wardrobes as we did and together we somehow managed to get a computer generated image and some ideas for the new look. To be fair to the kid, he didn’t do a bad job in the end, despite initial reservations. And aside from trying to charge us as much for fitting three doors and some shelves as the actual materials are worth, I think we struck up a decent deal.
We didn’t commit. First we need to make sure we can find someone else to put it together, as the last time my dearest husband put together a wardrobe it had uneven front doors, handles that you must be ever so gentle with and a base that comes off. But we’re confident we can find someone for under their quote and hopefully the makeover will begin soon.
Excited by our new found ability to do this nursery stuff we went to another shop to look at accessories, prams, car seats and more. It’s so gorgeous. I fell in love with everything and am hoping the lottery win will happen before November and this baby can have all the mod cons it should ever need and not need and probably never use but accessorise well within.
We were even nearly tempted into buying a pram. It came with a good deal on a car seat but sense got the better of us and with storage space as big as a postage stamp and our time spent shopping around non-existent we kept our wallets firmly in my bag and walked away.
It is such a minefield though. Do we go for the matching pram and car seat? Does it matter? It’s not like they’ll be seen together an awful lot. Do we go for a chest of drawers or a changing unit? How much does it matter how compact and lightweight the pram is or should we go for sturdy and bulky? Thank G-d we’ve got a few months to work this out, but I have to say, bump in tow, I am loving feeling justified finally in scouring these stores. It’s so fun.
