Apparently it’s not just Barnet as a whole that is deemed so wealthy that we can help out the rest of the UK. You know already that Barnet’s taxpayers pay across to the Chancellor nearly £20million a year more than we get back to help subsidise council services elsewhere in the UK. Now it seems our Council tenants are wealthy enough too.
I kid you not. Barnet’s Council tenants pay £9m a year to help pay for housing repairs on council housing stock. Not a bad idea I hear you say. Yep! But not our council houses!
Our tenants pay to help repair, refurbish and rebuild other Council’s council houses. So when Mrs Bloggins in one of our council flats wonders where all her rent goes – we can tell her Hartlepool, Scunthorpe, Bolton, Dunfermline, Manchester, Liverpool, Sunderland, Southampton ……
