Readers will know I have banged on about using my bike as often as I can when getting around the Borough, although admittedly I don’t get to use it as much as I should.
Anyway, I have decided to do a sponsored bike ride in aid of the Mayor of Barnet’s Charity – which this year is raising money for North London Hospice.
I am a great supporter of the hospice movement, not least having seen how my father and a close friend were both cared for as they fought terminal illness. In fact after my friend’s death, I spent about a year as a hospice volunteer (nothing important only making tea, doing errands and reading to patients) and so I know the work they do is invaluable, not just the patients but also to the relatives.
Anyway, North London Hospice does a fabulous job and deserves every penny raised – so I’ve volunteered to do a sponsored bike ride around the town centres of the borough. Starting off in High Barnet then Whetstone, North Finchley, Finchley Church End, East Finchley, Temple Fortune, Golders Green, Brent Street Hendon, Burnt Oak, Edgware and Mill Hill. At the moment – early December looks the favourite – a bit cold and no doubt I’ll end up saddle sore. But I thought I could do what I bang on about and get on my bike and raise some money –putting my bum (and my wallet) where my mouth is.
If anyone wants to join me – let me know.
