A 24-year-old medical student accused of murdering gay trainee rabbi Andreas Hinz, appeared briefly at the Old Bailey on Monday.
Thomas Hamilton McDowell from Baynes Street, Camden, is accused of killing the 37-year-old German, who was studying at the Leo Baeck College in East End Road, Finchley, and lived in Windermere Road, Finchley.
Mr Hinz's dismembered body parts were found in bins near McDowell's home. The trainee rabbi was last seen getting into a minicab outside Camden's popular gay nightspot The Black Cap on Wednesday, July 3.
A post mortem gave the cause of death as asphyxiation.
McDowell was remanded in custody until February 14 when he is expected to enter a plea to the charge.
