A 22-year-old man arrested on suspicion of a shooting in Ladbroke Grove which an eight-year-old girl was seriously injured has been released on bail.

The man has been bailed to a date in early February as investigations continue following a shooting in Southern Row on Sunday (November 24).

Police were called at around 5.30pm to shots fired and a number of people in a car injured.

A 30-year-old man and an eight-year-old girl had serious gun injuries and remain hospital.

The man is said to be suffering potentially life-changing injuries, and while officers await further details on the girl’s condition, her injuries are not life-threatening.

A witness described how the victims were targeted as they sat in a vehicle.

Sharon, who did not want to give her surname, told the PA news agency: "He was firing directly, like at close range as if you're standing to open a door, they were shooting directly into it.

"I was completely in shock and I just ran back up the stairs because I was really scared. Then I looked and I heard screaming afterwards, and then people coming out to call the police."

Another witness, aged 64, who spoke to Metro, described the girl's mum shouting.

"I heard shots, and then a woman shouting, 'My baby, my baby's been shot'... it makes me sick to think about it now," they said.

"There were four or five shots, there was screaming, it's horrible. A neighbour went out with a duvet to cover the injured."

People living in the area also expressed to the Brent & Kilburn Times their concerns about safety - as one resident said he previously witnessed "three shootings" in the past.

Muraad Haab, who did not see the attack on Sunday, said: "I've seen three shootings. Someone who was shooting their gun before, they shot my window."

Police say the investigation is progressing at pace, but the force continues to appeal for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances, including any motive.

Superintendent Owen Renowden, the lead for policing in Kensington and Chelsea, said: “The Met’s investigation is being led by detectives from the Specialist Crime Command who are working closely with our local teams.

“I recognise that any shooting has a traumatic impact on the local community. There will be a continued presence from our neighbourhood policing teams over the coming days and we are also working closely with our partners to provide additional reassurance.

“Although the investigation is progressing at pace, I want to appeal today to anyone with information that may assist to come forward.

“You can do so by calling 101 and quoting reference 5238/24Nov or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
