A new 24/7 gambling shop is planned close to a primary school in Finsbury Park.
Luxury Leisure, which runs 270 “adult gaming centres” across the country, has applied to Hackney Council to open the venue in Blackstock Road.
It is understood that the stationers at the site, Fish and Cook, is closing down, paving the way for the latest application.
Last year, the council refused similar plans by the same applicant to open the gambling shop.
There were fears that the new venue would create an “over concentration” of gambling shops in Finsbury Park, and that the 24-hour opening times would give rise to “unacceptable levels of noise”.
There are three betting shops and an Admiral 24/7 adult gaming centre within 500 metres of the venue. Ambler Primary School is just a couple of minutes’ walk away down Blackstock Road.
In documents submitted alongside the planning application, Luxury Leisure said: “[We are] committed to the safety of our staff and customers and to the ongoing relationships with the local area and our neighbours.
“Two sets of doors, external and internal with a lobby area to the venue will be present to mitigate any noise pollution to the outside area.”
Full details of the plans (reference 2024/1414) can be found on Hackney Council’s planning portal.
