Westminster, Camden, Brent, and Haringey rank among the worst areas for fly-tipping in England, figures show.

Eco-friendly waste removal company Hippo Waste analysed Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs statistics.

They found Westminster and Camden were the two worst areas in the country for fly-tipping.

Westminster had 30,737 fly-tipping reports between April 2022 and March 2023 - 145.4 incidents per 1,000 residents.

Camden had 31,457 reports, which is 144.3 per 1,000 residents.

Hackney, Brent, and Haringey also ranked high on the list, with 105.1, 102.1, and 84.8 reports per 1,000 residents respectively.

The study showed that 14 of the 20 worst fly-tipping areas in the country were in London.

But it is Manchester that has issued the highest total value of fly-tipping fines nationwide.

From April 2022 to March 2023, its fines reached £98,184—more than twice the amount issued by the next closest council, Blackburn with Darwen, at £44,978.

Gareth Lloyd Jones, managing director at Hippo Waste, said: "While places like Manchester and Blackburn may not rank high for incidents of fly-tipping, these councils appear to be where culprits are punished most, with actions from their respective local council and hefty fines.

"People are reminded of the dangers and risks of fly-tipping, with illegal waste dumping not only an eyesore for locals but also a health hazard, creating potentially hazardous areas for children, adults and wildlife.

"Instead of illegally dumping your waste, you are urged to visit your nearest recycling centre to dispose of everything in the most environmentally friendly manner."
