A new MP used his first speech in Parliament to clarify that his constituency is not linked to Jeremy Clarkson’s farm or the Cotswolds.

Dan Tomlinson, the newly elected MP for Chipping Barnet, made the point during his maiden speech in the House of Commons on Monday, October 28.

He addressed the misconception, exacerbated by the popular Amazon series Clarkson’s Farm, which frequently references Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire.

Mr Tomlinson's first speech also focused on what he described as the 'deal of suburbia,' highlighting how he believes this has been broken for many people across Barnet and the country.

He paid tribute to his predecessor, Theresa Villiers, the Conservative candidate who lost the seat in July’s General Election.

Mr Tomlinson said: "I pay tribute to my predecessor as the MP for Chipping Barnet, Theresa Villiers, who served with much hard work and diligence over her 19 years of service.

"She was a hard-working Member of Parliament, and I hope to follow in her footsteps in that regard."

Mr Tomlinson’s priorities as MP include increasing police numbers in Barnet, reducing NHS waiting lists, and improving local health services.

He is also focused on growing the economy, reviving Barnet’s high streets, and improving the condition of local roads.
