Hundreds of people gathered for their annual Moon festival staged in Colindale on the 15th day of the eighth month in the lunar calendar.
That’s the day the moon is believed to be at its brightest when children cast their wishes in this traditional East Asian and Chinese festival.
It was organised by Colindale Gardens social committee on the Redrow housing development.
“The Moon Festival was a beautiful event,” committee member Lavender Ma recalled. “So many people came to pay homage to the moon in all her beauty and glory.”
There were 60 ‘lantern’ riddles to solve, 16 in English, 38 in Chinese, and six maths riddles. Families made lanterns with paperwork and had ‘mooncakes’ to eat.
The committee also runs several clubs on the housing complex, a family club, gardens club and board games club.
Colindale Gardens recently started a discount scheme to get first-time buyers on the property ladder for the remaining 27 one- and two-bedroom homes at 20 per cent off.
