There will no longer be one hour's free parking at a large town centre car park after a change in management.

The Davy House Car Park in Lyon Road is known for offering an hour of free parking while shoppers go about their day in Harrow town centre.

But Harrow Council’s lease for the site was terminated by the landlord with immediate effect on September 13.

A new company will take over management of the site – which as a privately owned car park that the council has no jurisdiction over.

The council lost its powers in managing the site on September 20 from 6pm.

And with the shift, the one hour of free parking is no longer available.

However the council says that permits issued for the car park will still be valid for use at the Greenhill Way car park.

Cllr David Ashton, cabinet member for finance and highways said: “Due to circumstances outside our control, the council will no longer manage Davy House Car Park in Lyon Road.

“This is not what we wanted and we apologise for any inconvenience to shoppers, residents, workers or businesses who may be impacted by this change.

“The council’s offer of one-hour free parking, while no longer available at Davy House, will continue to be available to all who live, work or visit the borough in our on-street parking bays and in council owned car parks”.

Visitors to the town centre would normally pay £1.60 for additional hours after the one hour free session expired.

With it being located next to the busy Station Road and a short walk from St George’s and St Ann’s shopping centres, temporary free parking at the  89 spaces car park was considered useful by many.
