Nothing says Autumn like a day spent picking apples and tomorrow marks the opening of a popular Kent apple orchard.

Running up until September 22, the apple orchard will offer a variety of apples to pick, from Cox Apples to Bramley Apples, with ready picked Pears and Cobnuts also available.

The orchard is a popular attraction on Instagram, with the hashtag #castlefarmapples being used hundreds of times by Instagrammers sharing shots of ripened apples.

The farm is also famous for being the only commercial grower of the rare Norfolk Royal Apple, often referred to as a dessert apple and usually found in the North Downs.

Due to its bright red colour it is often referred to as the ‘Disney Snow White Apple’, but unlike the one given to Snow White this apple is sweet in taste and best eaten straight from the tree.

What you need to know

Booking is not essential and it's free to enter, although entry may be closed if the farm gets too busy.

The orchard has a dedicated car park which can be found off of Redmans Lane, and is also a 5-minute walk from Shoreham station in Kent, which can be reached via Thameslink train from London Blackfriars.

Dogs on leads are also welcome on the site, with baskets and bags available to buy at the farm for apple picking if you forget to bring one yourself.

The Market Stall will also be serving a range of food and drinks, along with lavender products sourced from their on-site lavender field.

During poor weather the farm may also be closed, with visitors advised to check on the day before travelling.
