A snooker club in Green Lanes has been ordered to pay more than £25,000 after showing Sky Sports illegally.
Harringay Snooker Club was found to have infringed Sky’s copyright by airing its sports channel without a legitimate subscription.
The Intellectual Property Enterprise Court at the High Court of Justice ordered the club in Green Lanes to compensate Sky on May 20.
The snooker venue will now have to pay £15,294.12 in damages and £9,269.13 in costs.
Sky brought the prosecution after actively visiting the club as part of its regular monitoring of pubs across the country.
Sara Stewart, head of compliance at Sky Business, added: “Businesses that show Sky Sports illegally can leave our legitimate Sky subscribers feeling short-changed.
“We actively visit thousands of pubs every season to monitor the games they are showing to help protect hardworking Sky customers who are unfairly losing business due to this illegal activity.
“Venues who continue to televise content in this way are breaking the law, and are at risk of being caught, which can result in licensees being ordered to pay significant damages and legal costs to Sky, and/or losing their personal licence.”
Harringay Snooker Club has been approached for comment.
