A woman who founded a care package website for cancer patients has been awarded a BEM in the New Year’s Honours list.
Dr Shara Cohen, CEO of Cancer Care Parcel, was recognised for voluntary services to women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and to cancer patients and their families.
The Barnet resident founded the organisation so that family members or friends of cancer patients could buy them the ideal gift.
Products include chemo care packages and mastectomy recovery kits.
A Cancer Care Parcel spokesperson said: “Under Dr Cohen's guidance, Cancer Care Parcel has become a beacon of support for cancer patients and their families, offering comfort and practical assistance during challenging times.
“The organisation's mission aligns seamlessly with Dr Cohen's personal commitment to compassionate and comprehensive care.”
They added: “The British Empire Medal recognises Dr Cohen's outstanding contributions to both the scientific and charitable spheres.
“Cancer Care Parcel extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr Cohen on this well-deserved honour.”
