The borough's residents are being encouraged to dust off their bikes and raise money for a children's charity today.

The third annual NSPCC Big Bike Ride will see sponsored cycling events take place across the borough of Barnet and the capital, with the aim of raising thousands of pounds to help vulnerable children.

Shoppers at Brent Cross shopping centre will be offered the chance to help by downing-bags and cycling on a static bike.

Dany Crabb, from the NSPCC, said: "By taking part in the NSPCC Big Bike Ride you will have a great opportunity to have fun, keep fit and at the same time help the NSPCC carry out the vital work it undertakes providing local services for children and families.

"Whether you join one of our shopping centre events, cycle around your local park with friends, on a static bike at the gym or on a motorbike, individuals and organisations really can play their part in ending cruelty to children.

"Funds raised really will make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children and young people."
