I am writing in response to the story about the Sanders Lane fiasco (Lane campaign gathers support step by stealthy step', Times Series, June 19), as I have completely had it with reading, week after week, stories about Barnet Council's awful brand of local government.
Once again, Barnet's Conservatives are guilty on two fronts: acting against the wishes of residents by turning a lovely country footpath into a major highway; and trying to dupe residents by sneaking the plans through the back door, only mentioning this major project deep in a few paragraphs of one of their coma-inducing 100-page plus reports.
Congratulations are due to eagle-eyed residents of the area who noticed the secret plot and have exposed Barnet's leaders for the charlatans they are, just in time, as the deadline for public comments is nearly passed.
Residents can be reassured that Hendon MP Andrew Dismore is on the case, fighting with them against this ridiculous plan. As your pages have shown again and again, when local people and Mr Dismore team up, we can embarrass Barnet's Tories into listening to what we actually want for our area.
