From Malcolm Gesthuysen: The reigning champion, Helge Hjort, won quickly on top board after his (weary/unworthy) opponent miscalculated horribly on move ten of an unfamiliar opening and lost a piece four moves later. Kishan Pattni had a fine win in the best game of the evening, giving up two pawns but having better rooks and bishop, which eventually delivered a back-rank mate.
David Iwi won a knight-and-pawns ending that he probably should have lost, but Chris Jones overlooked a simple fork, losing his passed pawns. Frank Sabin, the youngest member of the club, had another good win, this time against a fellow junior. Chris Rogal, Jonathan Landau, Raj Bhalla and Jonathan Hoffman also improved their tournament positions.
