West Finchley Underground station will again be closed this weekend as work to improve safety and security continues.

Northern Line trains will not be stopping at the station as the refurbishment work is carried out on new public information systems.

A spokeswoman for Tube Lines, which provides maintenance services for the Northern line, said: "As with all station modernisations, the emphasis is on safety and security, with an increase in the number of CCTV cameras and installation of new help points throughout the station."

Valid Underground tickets will be accepted on bus routes in the area.

The work is part of the £1.4 billion that is being spent on upgrading and extending the Tube network, and the Tube Lines spokeswoman added the work will also include new flooring and wall finishes to improve the interior design of the stations.

She added: "By doing the work over the weekend it enables us to complete as much work as equivalent to ten night shifts."

Tooraj Shadnia, senior project manger for the Tube Lines station upgrade programme said: "The refurbishments will bring significant benefits to commuters who travel through the stations every day.

"My project teams are looking forward to delivering the improvements and seeing what we know will be impressive end results."

The programme of improvements by London Underground forms part of Transport for London's (TfL) £10 billion investment across the capital.

A spokesman for TfL said: "Tube, London Overground and Docklands Light Railway improvement works will inevitably result in some disruption for passengers, but TfL is working hard to provide information and alternative travel options.

"The work is essential to provide for London's growing transport needs now, and into the future.

"TfL is urging all Londoners and Tube, London Overground and DLR passengers to "check before you travel" at weekends, allowing extra journey time where necessary."
