Refurbishment work at West Finchley Underground station is continuing this weekend and may cause disruption for passengers.

The tube station will remain closed all weekend as the work is carried out, meaning Northern Line trains will not be stopping at the station.

Valid Underground tickets will be accepted on bus routes in the area.

The work is part of the £1.4 billion that is being spent on upgrading and extending the Tube network.

A spokeswoman for Tube Lines, which provides maintenance services for the Northern line, said the work will include enhancing the look of the station, as well as improving the CCTV and information points for passengers.

She added: "By doing the work over the weekend it enables us to complete as much work as equivalent to ten night shifts."

The programme of improvements by London Underground forms part of Transport for London's (TfL) £10 billion investment across the capital.

A spokesman for TfL said: "Tube, London Overground and Docklands Light Railway improvement works will inevitably result in some disruption for passengers, but TfL is working hard to provide information and alternative travel options.

"The work is essential to provide for London's growing transport needs now, and into the future.

"TfL is urging all Londoners and Tube, London Overground and DLR passengers to "check before you travel" at weekends, allowing extra journey time where necessary."
