Several restaurants in Barnet have been nominated for newly-launched Turkish food awards.
The winners of the first Turkish Restaurant and Takeaway Awards (TURTA) will be announced on February 21.
Both Likya in Golders Green and Baran restaurant on Finchley Road were nominated in the “best Turkish restaurants in north and west London” category.
Durum Restaurant on Ballards Lane in Finchley and Alkis Restaurant in Edgware were both listed in the “best value restaurant” category.
Catin Kaygusuz of Melissa Ocakbasi Restaurant in Edgware is competing for “chef of the year”.
Shortlisted for the “fine dining" category are including Mayhill’s Kitchen and Skewd Kitchen in Cockfosters Parade.
Musa Akan, spokesperson for the TURTA awards, said: "There are an ever-growing number of fantastic Turkish restaurants and takeaways in the UK, and this popular cuisine is only on the rise.
“It offers culinary delights that balance an indulgent night out with healthy choices using fresh, quality ingredients. The British Turkish eateries are a key part of the local community and it’s great to see so many entries this year. The past year has tested every business operating in the hospitality sector, getting to the finals is a real achievement and all outlets should be proud."
The awards will be held in the Jubilee Room of the House of Commons, hosted by Enfield North MP Feryal Clark.
