Age Concern Barnet is giving away 20 spyholes to help vulnerable elderly residents feel more secure in their homes.
The fisheye door spyholes, donated by the Colindale police, have wide-angled lenses so the occupants of the house can see if there is more than one person outside.
They come complete with battery operated intercoms, which enable the householder to speak to the caller without having to open the door.
An Age Concern spokesman said: "We are happy to give these away to anyone living in the borough over the age of 60 who feels vulnerable in their home, and our handyman can fit them for free.
"However they can only be fitted to wooden doors."
Age Concern's handyman is also available for other complimentary jobs for older people in the borough, such as changing a light-bulb or fitting window locks.
Anyone interested in a free spyhole or booking the handyman should contact Age Concern Barnet on 020 8203 5040.
