A power cut hit more than 1,500 homes in Hampstead Garden Suburb last night.
Residents in the Finchley Road area experienced an interruption to their electricity supply about 8pm, although almost half of the 1,600 homes were reconnected within a minute by engineers from EDF Energy Networks.
More than 800 homes were without power for up to two and a half hours as the fault with an underground cable was repaired.
Other roads affected in the area included Hogarth Hill and Ashbourne Avenue.
Restaurants in the area were forced to close during the power failure, with street lighting and pedestrian crossings also affected.
A spokeswoman for EDF Energy Networks apologised to customers for any inconvenience caused.
