Labour MPs in the borough plan to rebel against the Government to defeat Gordon Brown's terror reforms.
Andrew Dismore, MP for Hendon, and Rudi Vis, MP for Finchley and Golders Green, will join at least 48 of the party's MPs in rebelling against plans to detain suspected terrorists for up to 42 days without trial, when a vote is held in the summer.
The MPs confirmed their stance this week after the list, drawn up by party whips, was leaked to a national newspaper.
Mr Dismore, who has vigorously opposed the plans in his role as chairman of the joint committee on human rights, feels alternatives are available.
He said: "I believe there is now a coherent alternative package of measures, particularly new offences and a lower threshold for prosecution, which have made a significant difference.
"I do not think the Govern-ment has showed the risk from terrorism has increased to such an extent that the proposed new powers are necessary.
"It can't be right for Parlia-ment to decide on a whipped vote whether someone should be kept in custody. This has to be a function for the judges."
Dr Vis said: "I wasn't in favour of the 28-day legislation, so I'm not in favour of any longer. If we are going to erode the foundations we have in this country, we shouldn't give in to the people who wish to erode it.
"The 42 figure seems to have been picked out of the air."
