A group of football fans were hounded out of a Hendon pub last week by riotous opposition fans.

The five Liverpool supporters were in The Little House, in Brent Street, during the Champions League game against Arsenal, when they were barracked by fellow viewers.

One of the group, Darren Newmark, 26, claims the landlady was increasingly confrontational as the game went on, siding with the Arsenal fans.

He said: "When Arsenal scored, they were up in our faces, very threatening and were chanting with their arms open.

"It made me very nervous and we were thinking if we said anything, they were going to retaliate.

"At one point they picked up two glasses and shook them as if they were about to smash them in our faces and pour drink on us."

Mr Newmark said they had been in the pub for the first leg and went back because they knew they were guaranteed seats.

When Liverpool were awarded a penalty, they were told aggressively it would not be advisable for them to stay if it went in.

"At that point we thought it best to leave," said Mr Newmark, who claims he and a friend were driving that night, and only had one drink, with the others in the group drinking cola.

He added, "The fact we weren't drinking very much seemed to be a real problem for them."

The landlady at The Little House declined to comment on the incident.

Tom Watson, a spokesman for Pubwatch, a voluntary organisation which aims to achieve safer social drinking environments, advised customers to contact the company that owns a pub if they have any complaints.

He said: "There is no excuse for it. The days when the owners could be a bit rough and ready are over, and they should be a lot more accommodating."

"The pub business is slow at the moment, so if people want to drink slowly, we would say that's better than them not drinking at all."
