The man found dead after a car smash in East Finchley on Thursday evening has been named by police.
Although formal identification has yet to take place, a police spokesman said they were satisfied that the victim was 43-year-old Stephen Wheatcroft, of North Hill Road.
A teenage girl who was also in the car at the time of the crash remains in a serious condition in hospital.
A second woman, thought to be in her 30s, is believed to be the mother of the teenager and was treated for arm and possible back injuries.
She has since been discharged from hospital.
Emergency services were called at around 5pm after it appears a Ford Mondeo crashed into a wall opposite the Hexagon car garage on the Great North Road.
The driver, believed now to be Wheatcroft, was found along with two other women.
He and the teenage girl were trapped in the car and fire crews used cutting equipment to free them.
Three London Ambulance crews, two fast response cars, a doctor and a paramedic went to the crash.
Wheatcroft was released and a London Ambulance spokesman said he was found to have stopped breathing.
He added: "Extensive efforts were made at the scene and on the way to the hospital to resuscitate the patient."
A police spokesman later confirmed that he was pronounced dead when he arrived at hospital.
He added: "Although formal identification has not taken place, next of kin are aware.
"A post-mortem examination will be conducted at Finchley Mortuary on Monday, April 14. An inquest will open and adjourn in due course."
The teenage girl was freed and the spokesman for the police said she was suffering from serious head injuries.
Along with the second woman, all three taken to the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead.
Marcella Doyle was driving in the opposite lane when she saw the crash happen.
She said: "I couldn't believe it, the car was in the air and coming towards me before landing on the pavement next to my car.
"You couldn't tell what car it was afterwards, it was a real mess.
"It looked really bad, everyone was trying to help, but it is terrible when it happens right in front of you."
Road closures were in place on some routes in the area following the crash.
Police do not believe any other vehicle was involved in the collision, but they are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the Orpington Collision Investigation Unit on 020 8998 5319
