The wife of a man found dead in a Hendon park last month has told of her shock at losing an "amazing" husband.

Rhys-Anthony Davies, 39, had been at a quiz at The Greyhound pub, in Church End, on the evening of March 17 before walking home.

His body was discovered by a dog walker at around 6.30am the next morning, in Sunny Hill Park, off Watford Way.

While the cause of death is still unknown - an inquest has yet to take place - police believe Mr Davies, of Watford Way, died of natural causes.

His funeral was held last Tuesday at Hendon Cemetery, in Holders Hill Road, and a memorial service took place in his native Wales on Friday.

His wife Gemma, 30, with whom he had a 15-month-old son, John, said: "He was a fantastic person, an amazing husband and devoted father.

"He was the kindest person and the amount of people who turned up to both services is testament to that.

"It was a huge shock to me, you can never prepare for a tragedy like this."

Daniel Morris, chairman of Sunny Hill residents' association, found Mr Davies while walking his dog.

Describing him as cleanly shaven and well dressed, with a St Patrick's Day Guinness hat on the ground next to him, Mr Morris said: "He was lying on his back and he just looked like he had fallen asleep there."

His friend of ten years, David King, said: "He was the best, a top man, he'd do anything for you.

"We just clicked. He was like a big brother, and the greatest friend you could hope for."

Family and friends hope to organise a tree planting in the park and a plaque on a bench in The Greyhound pub.
