The iconic London landmark, Battersea Power Station has today announced the official date the venue will open to the public for the first time ever.
Sharing that the Grade II listed building will open on Friday, October 14, nearly 40 years after the station's closure.
The news was shared by a group of newspaper boys and girls dressed in 1930s attire in front of the building in a nod to when Battersea Power Station first started generating electricity back in 1933.
The group are going across the city all day to share the news by handing out a limited edition newspaper, the Power Station Post.
Inside some of the newspapers, ten golden tickets will be hidden and the lucky winner will be among the first to walk into the building.
Plus they will also win two tickets to LIFT 109, a glass elevator experience which transports visitors 109 metres up to the top of the building’s north west chimney, offering panoramic views of London’s skyline.
During its peak, the Battersea Power Station supplied a fifth of London's electricity before being decommissioned in 1983.
Since then it has been painstakingly restored to its former glory and become London's newest and most exciting retail and leisure destination.
Inside the historical turbine halls, there will be two halls, A and B with the first with an Art Deco 1930s theme and the second with a 1950s brutalist industrial look and feel.
The halls will offer shoppers an array of British and international brands, with the first wave opening in October including the likes of Hugo Boss, Theory, Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, Aesop, lululemon, Mulberry, Jo and a new neighbourhood bookstore, Battersea Bookshop, from specialist bookseller Stanfords.
In the heart of the building, the Boiler House will stand proud, where the Arcade Food Hall from JKS Restaurants will open in 2023.
There will be other food and beverage venues inside, like Le Bab, Poke House, Clean Kitchen Club and more.
Plus the former control rooms have also been fully restored, with the first room a unique spot for events and the second an all-day bar where you can get up close and personal with the Control Rooms.
There's even more in the landmark with The Cinema at the Power Station that will host private showings and the latest blockbuster on their state of art screens.
Simon Murphy, Chief Executive Officer at Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC), said: “Announcing that we will be opening the building to the public for the first time in history in just over a month’s time is a monumental moment for the project.
"We can’t wait to welcome the first visitors, and show the local community, Londoners, and the rest of the world, the historic beauty of Grade II* listed building, which has been transformed into London’s most unique destination for all to enjoy.”
Battersea Power Station will also be creating over 2,500 new jobs when the station opens and a total of 17,000 jobs once the entire 42-acre project is completed.
