The Ultra-Low Emission Zone, or ULEZ as it is more commonly known, expanded past the capital’s congestion charge zone in October.

Anyone driving within the newly expanded zone whose vehicle doesn't comply with minimum emissions standards will be charged £12.50.

The new zone is 18 times greater than the former one, affecting many areas across north London.

Vehicles don't need to meet ULEZ standards to travel on the A406 itself but venture within it and they will.

Almost all drivers - whether they live in London or not - have to meet ULEZ standards to drive within the zone for free.

A headteacher of a school dubbed the “strictest in the country” was made the chairwoman of the Government’s Social Mobility Commission in October.

Michaela Community School, based in Wembley Park, is a free school that has been described as Britain’s strictest school.

Katharine Birbalsingh, who is the founder and head of the school, is taking over the Government role from Dame Martina Milburn, who resigned on May 5 last year telling Boris Johnson the role needed expanding to effectively tackle the issue.

Ms Birbalsingh said she would use the position to develop a society that “provides an equal chance for all”.

Hockey bronze medallist Sally Walton will cut the ribbon at the door.
