A petrol station in Friern Barnet was left gridlocked after dozens of cars queued in a chaotic scramble for fuel.
The Tesco garage by the A406 was chockablock at around 9pm this evening (Friday) after it had just received a delivery.
The forecourt was full while cars snaked back towards the North Circular in one direction and in the other tailed back to the Colney Hatch Lane entrance.
Elsewhere in Barnet other garages had closed off entry for vehicles after running out of fuel.
Among them were the Esso garages in New Barnet and Whetstone, as well as the BP on Russell Lane.
It comes amid reports of almost 400 petrol stations nationwide imposing £30 limits on fuel to tackle the "unprecedented" customer demand.
The government has said there is "ample fuel stocks" despite a lack of HGV drivers fuelling fears of shortages.
