A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing which has left a woman fighting for her life.
The Metropolitan Police says officers were rushed to Wood Street, near Barnet Hospital in Chipping Barnet, on Tuesday evening (September 21).
The force said it received reports of a stabbing just after 8.30pm.
Officers found a woman, believed to be in her 50s, suffering from stab injuries.
She was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition.
A police spokesperson said: "A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and taken into custody.
"A crime scene is in place and enquiries are ongoing."
At this stage it is believed the victim and suspect are known to each other, police added.
The Met for the borough of Barnet tweeted just before 2pm today (Wednesday) to say a road closure is still in place.
The tweet from MPS Barnet said: "Due to the ongoing investigation of an incident, Wood Street, Barnet, is closed between Argyle Road and Queens Road.
"Barnet town centre & Wellhouse Lane for Barnet General Hospital can be accessed via Granville Road. We will update you when the Road has reopened. #RoadClosure #EN5."
