An e-scooter caused a bathroom fire in Barnet and sparked a fresh warning over using correct battery chargers.
Firefighters were called yesterday (Sunday) at 12.45am to a second-floor flat in Golders Green Road, Golders Green, where an e-scooter was destroyed by a fire.
Two engines and around 10 firefighters from Hendon Fire Station attended.
The Brigade’s Fire Investigators believe it was accidental and caused by the failure of a lithium-ion battery within the scooter.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “The alarm was raised when a resident heard popping and discovered a fire in the bathroom.
"They then promptly left the building.
“It’s important to always use the correct charger for the product and buy an official one from a reputable seller.
"Batteries can get warm during their use and it is advisable to allow them to cool down before attempting to re-charge as they could be more susceptible to failure."
He continued: "You should always make sure you unplug your charger once it’s finished charging.
"Always follow manufacturers’ instructions when charging and we would advise not to leave it unattended or while people are asleep.
“Never block your escape route with anything, including bikes and scooters. Store them somewhere away from a main through route.”
