The search is on for this year’s community champion who could receive their moment of recognition at Hertsmere Borough Council’s Civic Awards.

The council wants to hear about individuals or groups living or working in Hertsmere who give up their time to improve the lives and circumstances of those in the community.

Mayor of Hertsmere, Cllr Alan Plancey, said: "This is a chance to honour anybody who has made a real contribution to the community. They may have run a local sports club for young people in their spare time, organised a community event which brought people together or they may make a difference by caring for the elderly or vulnerable. We know there are lots of incredible people in our community, so please nominate someone special for an Award.

"Whatever the reasons you feel someone should be nominated, I want to hear from you. It's a great opportunity to say thanks to the people in our borough who go about their work with very little or no recognition, but who we could not do without."

Nominees will be considered by a panel and the winner announced at a civic dinner at Elstree Studios on Saturday April 5.

Nominations will need to be submitted to the Mayor’s secretary by January 31.

As well as the Civic Awards, nominations are also invited for The Dave Rankin Award, which recognises individuals or groups involved in improving community safety, and the Youth Civic Award, which recognises the contribution made by residents aged 18 or under.
