Hendon parliamentary candidates have set out why they should be elected at the next General Election.
Clareine Enderby, David Pinto-Duschinsky, Portia Vincent-Kirby and Matthew Offord will all stand for their respective parties for the Election on December 12.
Below is what each candidate had to say ahead of the election.
Clareine Enderby – Liberal Democrats
“A vote for me is a vote to stop Brexit.
“A Liberal Democrat government will stop Brexit and invest the subsequent £50 billion Remain Bonus in public services and tackling inequalities.
“For Hendon residents, we would see our children get a better start in life by recruiting more teachers and giving more funding to schools. We would provide free childcare from 9 months. We would transform our mental health services by treating mental health with the same urgency as physical health.
“We will restore community policing, investing enough for two new police officers for every ward. We will restore youth services and bring police, teachers, health professionals, youth workers and social services together to prevent crime.
“I will work hard for every community in Hendon. We must stop wasting time, energy and public money on never-ending Brexit wrangling and instability. The Conservatives and Corbyn only promise more of the same. It’s time for a change.“
David Pinto-Duschinsky - Labour
“I’m running to be your MP to bring real change.
“I’ve talked to thousands of people across this constituency. I know politics is a mess and you’re frustrated by our do-nothing MP. He’s supported government cuts to our local schools and police. He’s done little to tackle the local housing crisis, force action on local problems such as fly-tipping or help local people. Instead, he’s supported Hard Brexit even though this area voted overwhelmingly Remain.
“I’ll bring real change. Unlike him, I’ll fight for your priorities. Real investment to ensure a world-class NHS and schools. More police. Fixing the housing crisis with more social and affordable housing, more rights for tenants and more say for local people over developments. An economy that works for people and the environment. Tough steps to force action on issues such as rubbish, streets and parking.
“I’ll stand for strong action on anti-Semitism, racism, Islamophobia and all prejudice - wherever it’s found. Labour needs to do more to address the concerns of the Jewish community - my community - and I’ll continue to fight for that.
“I’ll fight for the people to be given the final say on Brexit, and if there is a Final Say referendum, I will campaign for Remain.
“Most of all, I’ll listen. This is a two horse race. The Lib Dems can’t win here - they got only 3.8% in 2017. Only Labour can bring real change.”
Portia Vincent-Kirby (right) – Green Party
“The time is now for change. No longer can we continue as we are. The foundations of the world we once thought we knew are deteriorating dramatically all around us. No-one is safe from the crisis that faces humanity at large.
“The time is now for all of us to come together and face the realistic measures that must be taken, if we are to create a future that secures a world that it is inhabitable for our children and children’s children. We can no longer ignore the reality of climate change. We can no longer pretend that the practicality of old world politics is a certified safety net for securing our future necessities. We must put our trust into the new, in order to secure that which is old, our Earth.
“As a Member of Parliament for Hendon, I will ensure that our constituency is represented as a leader amongst these rising tides of change. I will ensure that not only are our fundamental economic concerns protected, but that we enhance our economy with an influx of a new Green Wave infused within it’s veins. I will work hard to deliver what the people of Hendon demand from their Government, whilst also demonstrating that a conscious economy that focuses upon the protection of our world at its core, can simultaneously branch out to flourish in every aspect of our daily being, reaching into every corner of our individual wants and needs, providing for a future that would give us all the peace of mind that we’ve done what we can to preserve our Earth.
“By voting for a Green MP in this General Election, you’ll be demonstrating a powerful message to future generations that it’s never too late for change. It’s never too late to fight for that which seems beyond us. We can fight climate change and give our economy the Green Wave it deserves. Now is the time to vote consciously. Now is the time to take action for ourselves, our children, our future, our world. Now is the time to vote Green.”
Matthew Offord - Conservatives
“I have been proud to serve the Hendon constituency as its MP for the last nine years. As the ONLY candidate who lives in the constituency, I experience the same issues and concerns as other residents.
"I have campaigned for more police and am pleased the Government has committed to an additional 22,000 officers. I will fight for Hendon to receive its fair share.
"I welcome the Government’s extra money for the NHS and am pressing for some of this to go to GPs to improve services and treatments.
"I have fought for more money for local schools and welcome the Government’s pledge to increase per pupil funding.
"I have championed the character and attractiveness of our area and opposed unsuitable overdevelopment.
"I want people to keep more of the money they earn yet Labour have said they will tax homes, inheritance and income.
"I have always fought to get the best deal for Hendon. If re-elected I will continue to do so.”
