Knot is a dance and circus production by contemporary circus performers Nikki and JD. Using circus techniques alongside dance, performers Nikki Rummer and JD Broussé have created a show that is both death-defying and touchingly poignant. The production, is coming to artsdepot in North London on Thursday, May 23, as part of its UK tour.

Nikki and JD are in a relationship. They have had relationships with other people before, but this one is special to them. Through contemporary circus, Nikki and JD explore their relationship, laying it bare for the audience who may not be expecting the twist: JD is gay and Nikki is straight and single.

Performer and co-creator Nikki Rummer said: “We wanted the reality of our partnership to be the centre of the performance. Whenever we get off stage, people say to us, ‘You must really trust each other!’ which is true, I trust JD not to drop me, and he trusts me not to kick him in the head. But underneath that is a much richer mix of fondness and irritability and compatibility. Humour is so important to telling the story of what ‘lies beneath the surface’, and movement can be such a powerful means of showing the emotion.”

Knot was created in collaboration with award-winning choreographer Ben Duke of Lost Dog Dance Company, and it is touring the UK throughout spring 2019.
